Gross motor skills utilize large muscle movements and impact coordination and use of the body for play, sport and other educational activities. Gross motor development is impacted by muscle tone (the body’s ability to stay aligned without becoming like jelly or becoming like a rock), muscle strength and postural control. Gross motor and postural skills form the foundation to development of precise use of the hands and fingers for fine motor tasks.
